What We Do

Open Water Segment

The Problem

40% to 60% of all common illnesses (diarrhea, cholera etc) are on account of water-borne diseases. This problem is not just in the industrial areas but also in the congested urban centers, where water supply lines and open sewer drains often lay side by side in the streets. The water contamination is also rampant in the rural areas where there is no infrastructure of sanitation and pesticide usage is abundant. The result is chemical and bacterial contamination of drinking water which causes major health hazards.

 The Intervention

In order to provide clean drinking water to communities most impacted by these health hazards, Pharmagen has established community water shops throughout Lahore, a city of 10 million people in Pakistan’s most populated province.

These water shops utilize a comprehensive purification process which removes all the impurities that other processes (e.g., boiling filtering, treating) do not.

 Progress To-Date

Currently, Pharmagen has 16 water shops set up throughout Lahore. We have customers that are consisting of households, to whom we provide both home delivery and walk-in service.

Our vision is to supply “Pure & Refreshing” drinking water to half a million people per day. In order to reach this goal, we plan to launch additional water shops that will help us provide over 1 million litres of water a day.

i. Home Delivery

We deliver international standard quality drinking water in 20-litre containers (jerry cans) to households within a 3 kilometer radius of each shop (see list of shops here).  One 20-litre container costs Rs45.  This is the most affordable price in the market which comes to around Rs2.25 per litre.

ii. Walk-in

Customers can also choose to visit any of our shops (see list of shops here) and buy the water directly from there for only Rs.1.50 per litre. They can bring their own containers or can pay a security deposit to use the 20-litre Pharmagen Water container.
